The first quarter, DECLINE, represents the degradation of the habitat through intensive building, infrastructure and monocultures among other stresses. It also highlights ill-considered practices which thoughtlessly degrade our environment.

Objective

The first quarter represents the degradation of the habitat through intensive building, infrastructure and monocultures among other stresses. It also highlights ill-considered practices which thoughtlessly degrade our environment.

Plan

The organization of sectors spins clockwise around the Universal Window Box through a series of environmentally damaging conditions. These bear an important relationship to each other and to solutions to be seen in the Mitigation Quarter.

Spatial organization

The quarter is defined by the scaffold board path, the dead hedge and the Horse Chestnut ‘Baumanii’. There is a secondary level of enclosure between the vertical construction elements, the chestnut and the thuya. The flood is focal contained within the construction area and the grey front garden and its sterile lawn.
